The Trinity

Intro: People often declare "I can't understand the concept of the Trinity. How can one be three and three be one? Because I don't understand it, I won't believe it!"

It's true that understanding the Trinity is a little like trying to comprehend eternity; it's a very difficult task to grasp an infinite person and concept with a finite mind. Yet God would have us know more than most of us think (Deut. 29:29).

 

I. The Trinity Declared:

[1]. Each member possesses the same divine attributes and is thus co-equal with the others (Jn. 10:30; Ps. 110:1; Acts 2:34).

[2]. The three-fold title to the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - under the name of "God" (Deut. 6:4) affirms both oneness and equality. (Matt. 3, 16, 17; 28:19; Acts 10:48; 2 Cor. 13,14) Father who is God - (Rom. 1:7; Isa. 42:8) Son who is God - (Heb. 1:8; Phil. 2:11) Spirit who is God - (Acts 5:34; 2 Cor. 3:17).

[3]. They are considered as three in one in the Old Testament (Isa. 48:12-16 cf. Rev. 1:8,11; 21:6; 22:13).

 

II. The Essence of The Godhead:
